Medieval Charity Shoot :  Sunday 19th July 2026.

Medieval Charity Shoot

The day will commence with a mass Battlefield shoot, when all archers have shot the first three dozen from the first distance they will split into three groups to shoot the wand, speed or distance.

Then they all shoot two dozen at the second distance and again split into three to shoot a different wand, speed or distance.

Finally they all then shoot a further one dozen from the third distance and then split for the last time to wand, speed or distance.

The Field  Shoot will be run as a normal field shoot but there will be no inner kills and a mixture of target types.

 The shoot is restricted to the wooden arrow classes only.

Medieval costume is expected and there is a £2 reduction on the entry fee (seniors)

Battlefield Shoot

For the main battlefield all Archers will shoot three dozen arrows in sets of six from the first shooting line, two dozen in sets of six from the second line and just one dozen in two sets of six from the third line. Only one arrow in each target from each set of six will score. If they have two arrows in the same target from a set of six it will cancel any score from the first arrow. They can stand anywhere along the shooting line and shoot at any targets they wish but as all are shooting together they should avoid shooting across others.

Scoring

For the small closer targets: 10points from the first line, 5points from the second line and 2points from the third line;

For the mid distance larger/taller targets it will be 50/25/10;

For the two mounted targets 200/100/50.

So archers will get more reward for trying the longer targets than the shorter ones.

Wand Shoot

The wands are pieces of cardboard 3ft long and five inches wide with a one inch wide black centre stripe set on large foam butts to be shot at 15 yards. Archers will shoot in pairs shooting two dozen in sets of six

Scoring

1 point for hitting the wand and 5 points for hitting the black stripe.

Speed Shoot

Archers will shoot large animal faces set on a foam butt and shot at 15 yards. Archers will shoot as many arrows as they can in the 60 seconds allowed.

Scoring

The highest number of arrows shot that have hit the animal. If there is a tie it’s the number of arrows that have hit the kill area. It’s NOT the most arrows shot.

Rules

1/ Archers are allowed to nock their first arrow onto the bowstring before the time starts.
2/ Only one arrow on the bowstring at any time.
3/ All arrows must be shot from a standing position.
4/ All arrows must be shot from full draw not half drawn.
5/ Archers are allowed to stick a number of arrows in the ground in front of them before they Start.

Distance Elimination

Three butts each with a large animal face. Archers start at 27 yards and shoot a maximum of three arrows each until they hit. As soon as they score any hit they move back to the next distance and continue at each longer distance until only one is left.

Field Shoot.

A normal type field shoot using a variety of targets including the escapees from the main battle hiding in the woods, shooting in groups of four and scoring 20 for a kill or 16 for a wound on the first arrow

We will be making a donation to the Devon Air Ambulance Charity from the proceeds of the shoot.

On site catering by our usual team providing hot and cold drinks during the day with a lunch provided in between the duals with the French Army.
